This guide is intended to assist users with their Federated School Managed Apple ID. All teachers and students have access to a school managed Apple ID that is federated through our Microsoft Active Directory (AD) services. Apple IDs are set to users Google email as the username and with Microsoft AD passwords as the passwords. School Managed Apple IDs are intended to be used on school issued Apple devices for the use of iCloud and other Apple services. Since the School Managed Apple IDs are Federated with Microsoft AD, users will need to log into AD at least once before to change their default password. This can be done by logging into a Windows computer at least once before with their Microsoft AD credentials or by visiting the following website: http://10.2.0.171/ (must know current password for the change to work).
How to sign in on a School Issued MacBook:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
Click Sign In
Enter your Apple ID (school email address)
Enter Microsoft Active Directory password (should be the same password used to log into a Windows computer) in the Microsoft login
You are now signed in
How to sign in on a School Issued iPad:
Open the Settings app
Tap Sign in to your iPad
Enter your Apple ID (school email address)
Enter Microsoft Active Directory password (should be the same password used to log into a Windows computer) in the Microsoft login
You are now signed in
Once a user has signed in on a school issued Apple device, they can also sign in to Apple’s website https://appleid.apple.com/ to view their School Managed Apple ID information.
Common issues are selecting “Sign Up” instead of “Sign In”, School Managed Apple IDs are already created for all employed teachers and active students. Other issues are not changing the default Microsoft AD password or using the incorrect password. Also, trying to sign in on a non-school issued device before signing in on a school issued Apple device, the Apple ID needs to be logged in at least once on a school issued Apple device to be registered before being used elsewhere.
